PSG’s reward for knocking out Premier League leaders Liverpool on penalties in the last-16 was a showdown with another English club in Aston Villa which meant a reunion with former manager in Unai Emery.
After a comfortable 3-1 first leg win in Paris, the Ligue 1 champions raced into a 2-0 lead before the half hour mark in the second leg but were left hanging on as Villa fell just short of completing a memorable comeback was the won 3-2 on the night but lost 5-4 on aggregate.
Barcelona also survived a second leg scare in their quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund. Leading 4-0 from the first leg, Hansi Flick’s side lost 3-1 on the night – their first defeat across any competition in 2025 – but advance 5-3 on aggregate.
